BELCO XT® DOOR TRIM

Framing the First Impression

The front door is one of a home’s most used—and most noticed—features. In 2025, bold statement colors and beautiful glass paneling immediately draw attention. While the door itself often gets the spotlight, it’s the exterior door trim that frames it, enhances its appearance, and finishes off the entire entryway. With the right trim, the door looks more substantial, more stylish, and more integral to the home’s facade.

Belco XT Trim delivers a durable, attractive solution for exterior door trim—ready to perform, ready to impress, and built to last.

FORM MEETS FUNCTION

The Looks and the Longevity

The trim around a front door does more than simply fill in the space between the siding and door frame—it defines the entry, influences curb appeal, all while enduring constant use and environmental exposure. Quality door trim helps:

  • Enhances the visual impact of the home’s entrance
  • Covers and seals joints where siding meets the door frame
  • Prevents water intrusion and resists insect activity
  • Complements other architectural design elements on the facade
Poor-quality trim, on the other hand, can warp, split, rot, or worse, become the first place homeowners and guests notice something is wrong.
INSTALLATION BEST PRACTICES

Application and Installation Information

Belco XT offers the sizing flexibility and profiles to meet the needs of any exterior door trim project.

For standard 3068 Door Installations, Belco recommends:

  • Legs: 5/4 x 4 or 1 x 4
  • Header: 5/4 x 6 or 1 x 6

Pro-tip: Using a single 18′ board, you can trim out the entire door with minimal waste. However, builders using a custom header may find that a 14′ board is ideal for trimming the legs efficiently.

If the doors already include brick molding, consider:

  • Legs: 2 x 4
  • Header: 2 x 6 (to match standard brick molding depth)

Some builders also prefer 2 x 3 double-sill stock to trim doors with brick molding for a clean, professional finish. Whatever the case, with Belco XT, you get the lengths and widths needed to complete entry trim packages while reducing waste and saving time and money on the jobsite.

COMMON MATERIALS

Exterior Door Trim Material Options

Selecting the right exterior door trim material is important for both functional benefits and aesthetic continuity. Some common material options, like cedar and vinyl, each come with strengths and drawbacks. Exterior doors endure more frequent contact and closer scrutiny than most areas of a home’s exterior, so the trim here needs to be tough, consistent, and attractive, qualities that many trim materials often fail to deliver.

Vinyl trim, for example, may look the part from a distance but lacks the authentic profile and finish that real wood offers. It can warp in the heat and crack in the cold. Metal trim options often develop a chalky finish and don’t hold up visually over time, causing curb appeal depreciation. Cedar is a traditional exterior trim favorite but comes with issues like softness, denting, and bleed-through from natural oils unless properly sealed. Finally, while fiber cement is revered for its long-term durability, the upfront material cost, special tools, and special installation requirements are hurdles for builders looking for outstanding performance and visual appeal.

There are a lot of materials on the market for door trim, but not all will provide optimal or cost-effective results. Some will even limit design options, while others inevitably lead to callbacks. Belco’s XT trim offers the performance and appearance builders need and homeowners deserve.

THE BELCO DIFFERENCE

Built to Last

Belco XT Trim for door trim applications offers long-lasting performance thanks to our proprietary 2-step treatment process. First, Belco’s non-metallic, EPA-approved wood preservative treatment (Wolman® AG) penetrates the wood fibers and is then properly dried before priming. This key distinction is what sets us apart, ensuring our wood is fortified from within. Our proprietary, industry-leading water-based primer protects the surface and resists water penetration. The end result? Exterior door trim with unmatched durability that exceeds the highest industry standards for coating consistency and wood substrate quality
