Drip Edge
Moisture Intrusion Insurance
Drip edge is a trim strip fastened at the top of the bargeboard following the same angle of the gable end. The purpose of drip edge is to protect against moisture intrusion, and to make an attachment point for the flashing that runs over the gable while spacing the flashing an inch off the bargeboard.
Details and Longevity
This space serves two purposes; first, it is architecturally pleasing as it provides added shadow lines and gable end detail. Typically 1×2 or 1×3, the drip edge is cap flashed to protect against rot while providing a standoff so that the water that runs off the gable end does not leak down over the bargeboard causing unsightly streaking and potentially rot.
Application & Installation Information
Typically a 1×2 or 1×3 nailed at the top edge of the bargeboard and covered in cap flashing to prohibit water streaking on the bargeboard in wind driven rain situations
