This unique project combines the space and livability of a detached home within an apartment style budget. Developer and builder, Fulton Property Group has turned these PAMAS Architecture designed cottages into a highly sought-after option for singles, couples and small families. Belco Forest Products provided a number of exterior millwork products to highlight various design elements.
The front porch shed roofs are all supported with 6×6, treated and primed structural glulam Belco XT® Posts. A paintable option to cedar, these striking columns are far less prone to checking and splits because of the lamination process. In addition, maintenance is every ten years as opposed to staining cedar every two years. Back door shed roofs are composed of 4×6 Belco beams atop 6×6 braces. The garage doors are all finished with 2×8 Belco XT® Trim.
Belco XT® is superior to southern yellow pine (SYP) in a number of ways. All Belco products are made from high-altitude, spruce-pine-fir (SPF). These trees grow slowly at higher altitudes which makes for dense grain and small tight knots. The boards are very straight and stable to begin with. Belco combs each stick for texture uniformity. SYP is very green with a wider grain pattern. This leads to large knot break-outs and movement as it dries to the ambient air conditions. SYP arrives on scene raw, so priming in the field is always necessary, but frequently an afterthought as backsides are left raw. Belco XT® arrives primed on all six sides and with our treatment a standard feature; we can warranty our products for 20 years. This stunning project showcases Belco XT® Products, creating long-lasting beauty for years to come.
