5 Reasons to Choose Acrylic Over Alkyd

NO YELLOWING

Alkyd based primers have a low UV tolerance resulting in yellowing while Acrylic maintains strong UV stability and thus is less susceptible to photo-degradation -

ACRYLIC ALLOWS FOR EXPEDITED PRODUCTION

Alkyd primers have a fixed dry time, meaning you cannot force dry alkyd primers or paints without dire consequences, while acrylic primers have an unfixed dry time allowing for flexibility in drying techniques, (air, oven, vacuum).

NO CHALKING, NO CRACKING

Alkyds are prone to embrittlement due to organic linkages that suffer chronic decomposition (reducing flexibility) which eventually leads to chalking and cracking film. Conversely, Water-Borne Acrylics possess an elastic, inorganic molecular bond (inorganic molecular linkages expand and contract with the substrate without rapid decomposition found in Alkyd based linkages).

NO BLISTERING, NO PEELING, NO ROT

If moisture gets trapped within an Alkyd primed product this will lead to Blistering, Peeling and Rot... Acrylic primers are water-blocking and vapor permeable, similar to Gore-Tex, and allow vapor to escape while shielding substrate fiber from water penetration.

NO MILDEW, NO MOLD

Made from organic Linseed (flax) oil, Alkyd primers are highly susceptible to mold and mildew because their organic make-up acts as auger (food) for microbial organisms. Meanwhile, Acrylic primers are naturally mold/mildew resistant in that their inorganic composition helps retard mildew/mold growth.

Belco's cutting edge primer technology coupled with the above 5 reasons makes the decision easy....

The future is upon us - Acrylic is IN - Oil is OUT.
