  • BATTEN

    Narrow strips of wood used to cover joints or as decorativevertical members over plywood or wide boards. Typical 1×2, 1×3

  • BALUSTER

    Vertical members in a railing used between a top rail andbottom rail or the stair treads. Typical 2×2

  • BARGEBOARD

    Exterior house trim along a gable. Typical 2×8

  • BELLY BAND

    The nontechnical term for decorative cladding that runshorizontally around a house or building. It usually runs around thebuilding at about the height of the first or second floor. Typical 2×10, 2×12

  • CORNER

    Decorative trim to help protect the corners where siding joints cometogether. Typical 5/4×3, 5/4×4

  • FASCIA

    Horizontal boards attached to rafter/truss ends at the eaves andalong gables. Typical 2×8

  • FRIEZE/RAKE

    Trim member connecting the siding with the soffit. Typical 1×4

  • GARAGE WRAP

    Decorative trim encloses the garage framing members. Typical 2×8

  • POST

    Structural column for porches and decks. Typical 6×6

  • RAIL

    The decorative horizontal element (top and bottom) in a balustrade. Typical 2×4
